During the most recent staff development day, Snyder Primary School and DAEP staff attended Youth Mental First Aid training. Trainers were from local mental health agencies including West Texas Centers and the Betty Hardwick Center. The training equips participants to recognize and respond to youth and adolescents who are experiencing mental health challenges or who are in crisis. The course introduces common mental health challenges youth experience and teaches a 5 step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. The training is designed for teachers, parents, caregivers, family members, school staff, neighbors, and other caring citizens and gives them steps to take to help. To learn more, visit mhfa.org. In Mrs. Soliz's reading class, students became inference detectives to solve the Case of the Secret Valentine. Students collected clues and gathered up suspects. After each clue, they removed suspects who did not fit the criteria. By the last clue, they solved the case by inferring that Cactus sent the card because she is the only one with prickles. We spotted more acts of kindness at Snyder Primary School today! Mrs. Dominguez’s class cleaned tables in the lunchroom to help out the custodians. Kindness continued in the kindergarten hallway! Kindness week continues with Ms. Brown’s kindergarten class at Snyder Primary School! They completed their favorite “Kindness Mission” today and delivered encouraging cards to the students in Ms. Struble's class to remind them that they are smart, friendly, and loved!

🌊 Ms. Terry’s Kindergarten class has been learning about ocean adaptations. Students experienced the insulating properties of blubber with this fun experiment! Not only does blubber insulate heat, it stores energy, and increases buoyancy.

🍕Do you think about Language Arts lessons while eating pizza? Mrs. Jones' kindergarten class is learning about the main ideas of texts and supporting evidence. In this lesson, the main idea is the whole pizza and the details are the pizza toppings. The class made mini pizzas after reading a story to reiterate the main ideas and evidence in the book. 🎉🎉 SPS Growth Parade 🎉🎉 This morning, we were able to celebrate SPS students who have shown growth this semester! Each teacher nominated two students from their classrooms for us to cheer on. The whole school was invited to celebrate each student and their growth. We are thankful for our students and their hard work! ❤️

We know Thanksgiving has come and gone, but the memories will last a lifetime! Have you read the story, "Stone Soup"? Ms. Arredondo's students and other Pre-K classes at Snyder Primary Elementary School learned about this European folk story. Hungry strangers convince the townspeople to share a small amount of their food in order to make a meal that everyone enjoys. Mrs. Leija’s 2nd-grade dual-language homeroom class celebrated Día de los Muertos by creating an ofrenda for their dear loved ones. The Dual-Language program isn't just about learning a second language, it's about gaining a deeper understanding of different cultures too! Miss. Stewart, the art teacher at Snyder Primary School, continued their studies of this holiday during art class. Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade students used watercolor crayons to color a pre-made design or to create their own design of a sugar skull. The 2nd and 3rd-grade students painted rocks to look like a sugar skull. Día de los Muertos is celebrated from October 31st through November 2nd. It largely originated in Mexico and is celebrated by people of Mexican heritage elsewhere. It is a holiday of joyful celebration rather than mourning. The multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pay respects and to remember friends and family members who have died.
